『手振り刺繡』
この技術を習得して一人前になるには何十年もの長い時間がかかります。
その上、今はもうこのミシン自体がほとんど製造されてないことやそのミシンの操作の難しさに職人が育ちにくい原因があります。この横振りミシンともいわれるミシンは、足元のペダルの踏み込みの強さ、太もも部分にあるレバーを膝で操作することで、刺繍のふり幅をコントロールしながら、手元の針先と図案を交互に見て刺繡糸で絵を描いていきます。
職人の手足を使って仕上がる刺繍はふっくらと立体感があり温もりを感じられる仕上がりになっています。
「衣」は最初から作品の多くにこの手振り刺繍を入れてきましたが、このような刺繡の大作の感動をいつまでお届け出来るか分りません。
カウントダウンが始っている伝統工芸の技術の消失は日本の損失になることは間違いがないと思っております。
